PSYCH 305 : Music Psychology
This course takes a scientific approach to understanding how and why music is such an important and prevalent aspect of human life. We will explore theories and review empirical research that measures the impact of music on health, psychological well-being, cognitive thought processes (like memory & attention), childhood development, social bonding, personality, and emotion. By the end of the course, students will gain exposure to a wide array of topics in music psychology, and will gain the skills necessary to critically analyze scientific research on music. The course will include active participation during lectures/discussions, activities to measure musicality, short writings on a variety of topics, creative tasks, and a final research project tailored to student interests.
